Claudia Melo

Director

Claudia Melo, J.D.

Claudia oversees Career Center administration, including counseling initiatives and managing the Law School's compliance with all employment reporting requirements including the ABA, NALP, and U.S. News. Most recently, she served as Vice President of the Minnesota Legal Career Professionals. Claudia is a member of Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers, the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association, and the NALP Judicial Clerkship and Public Service committees. Previously, Claudia was a career coach at the Carlson School of Management and a career counselor at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City. Before entering higher education administration, she served as a staff attorney for the Youth Advocacy Center of Covenant House New Jersey and was an associate at Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo in Boston. Claudia received her B.A. from Brown University and her J.D. from the Northeastern University School of Law.

Sarah Rohne

Assistant Director, Employer Relations and Business Development

Sarah Rohne, J.D.

Sarah manages employer relations for the Law School, including development of local, regional, and national employment opportunities for law students and alumni; and management of national and on-campus recruiting, diversity hiring, and other hiring programs. Sarah's background also includes practicing law as an attorney in Minneapolis, and employment with national legal staffing agencies as a senior recruiter. For many years Sarah has been active in national legal professional development organizations and currently serves as the NALP Liaison to the Commission on Women in the Profession, and the NALP Midwest Regional Representative for law schools throughout the midwest. Sarah is also an active leader in Minnesota and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Minnesota Women Lawyers, as well as chairs the Law School Liaison Committee of the Hennepin County Bar Association. Sarah received her B.A. from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and J.D. from Hamline University School of Law.

Amanda Furst

Assistant Director, Public Interest

Amanda Furst, J.D.

Amanda joined the Career Center staff in 2012 as its inaugural public interest coordinator, a position funded by a generous gift from the Robina Foundation. Amanda is now Assistant Director, Public Interest, where she provides program management for the Law School's summer and post graduate programs to support public interest careers, provides counseling and resources to students interested in public service, and engages in employer relations for public interest employers. Amanda, a 2008 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law, started her career as an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellow where she developed a Medical-Legal Partnership Project. She served as staff attorney in the Employment and Public Benefits Unit, then in the Housing Law Unit, of Southeast Louisiana Legal Services in New Orleans. She is currently the Committee Chair for Equal Justice Works' National Advisory Committee.

Laura Clemens

Career Counselor

Laura Clemens, J.D.

Laura focuses on student career counseling, professional development programming and managing mentorship programs. Before joining the Career Center, Laura served as assistant director in the Career Center of Mercer University, Walter F. George School of Law in Macon, GA. Laura received her B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and her J.D. from the University of St. Thomas. She will also complete an M.S. in Academic Advising at Kansas State University in Spring 2015. After law school, Laura practiced primarily in family law and civil litigation. She frequently offered free legal advice during law clinics and self-representing clinics at Tubman-Chrysalis. Prior to joining Mercer, she worked with undergraduate students in Advising and Accessibility Services at Concordia University in St. Paul and in Career Services at the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota.

Hallie Prest

Career Counselor

Hallie Prest, J.D.

Before joining the Career Center in March 2015, Hallie worked as an admissions counselor at the Law School and was a law clerk for the Honorable Jay M. Quam at Minnesota’s 4th Judicial District Court in Hennepin County. She received her B.A. from the University of Southern Mississippi and her J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. Hallie is licensed to practice law in Minnesota and enjoys devoting spare time to providing pro bono legal services to low income clients. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Minnesota Lavender Bar Association, the Minnesota State Bar Association, and the Hennepin County Bar Association.

Simona Suen

Employer Relations Associate

Simona Suen

Simona joined the Career Center in 2010 as a Human Resource Development intern. Due to her hard work Simona is now Employer Relations Associate. In this role, Simona plans and executes local and national hiring programs. She manages schedules for on-and-off campus interviews; and serves as a liaison between the Career Center, students and employers. Simona also coordinates spring and fall employer receptions, job postings, work study, and post graduate fellowships. Simona currently serves on the Minnesota Career Development Association Executive Board. She is a member of the University of Minnesota Women's Leadership Institute and serves as the Diversity Liaison for the Minnesota Legal Career Professionals. Simona has a B.A. in human resource development and management from the University of Minnesota and several years of work experience with Target Corporation.

Shana Hansen

Office Manager

Shana Hansen

Shana serves as the Career Center's coordinator for judicial clerkships, and helps manage office administration and event programming. In 2013, Shana received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Hamline University with a minor in Legal Studies. Shana's background includes coordinating legal services for victims of domestic violence at Tubman-Chrysalis and providing administrative support at Hamline School of Law Dean's Office. Shana actively volunteers with Hamline University undergraduate Mock Trial program and North Branch High School Speech program.
