Registration/welcome is from 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m., and the program begins at 8:30 a.m. There is no charge to attend this CLE training program. 2 Elimination of Bias and 1 Standard CLE credits have been requested (Event #179681). Brock Hunter (’97), Attorney, Brockton D. Hunter, PA; "Echos of War"—A compelling presentation on representing psychologically-injured Iraq and Afghan war veterans based on Mr. Hunter's own experience as a recon scout for the U.S. Army and his representation of numerous veterans in the criminal justice system
Sara Sommarstrom (’05), Vetlaw Director, Minnesota Assistance Counsel for Veterans; "The Nuts and Bolts of Vetlaw Clinics"—the layout, client flow, typical questions, resources, and services offered, as well as child support and criminal expungement basics
Ana Voss, Law School Adjunct Professor; Assistant United States Attorney District of Minnesota; "Federal Laws Bearing on Veterans' Issues"—SCRA, FTCAct, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act, and a variety of federal credit protection statutes
The corresponding event to this CLE is a free drop-in legal clinic at the VA Medical Center on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Those who attend the CLE training program will be eligible to staff the clinic and provide legal services to veterans. The drop-in clinic is sponsored by the Law School Clinics in collaboration with the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans.
