Description:

Although American law generally has been framed in generic terms incumbent on men and women alike, through most of American history law distinguished in significant ways not only between men and women, but among women depending on race, marital status, citizenship and class. This course is an examination into the gendered aspects of American legal history, emphasizing those themes in which women's relationship to the law has been different from men's relationship to the law.
