Description:
This seminar focuses on the substantive law of capital punishment and on the procedural aspects of post-conviction proceedings. The course will include an examination of the history of death penalty jurisprudence, the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, habeas corpus, and state and federal death penalty statutes. A paper of 20 to 30 pages will be required. Guest speakers will attend the seminar from time to time throughout the semester.
