Description:
Critical Race Theory is a term used to represent a wide body of legal, political, and social research developed primarily by African American, Latino, and Asian American legal scholars. This course will examine this theory to explore the intersections of law, race, class, sex, and religion. The focus of this course will be a critical examination of law, society, and culture. The course studies how the use of race in the law impacted citizenship, marriage, birth rights, employment, education, immigration, and other legal benefits. The course studies privilege, implicit bias, the construction of power, and the social architectures of race, sex, religion, and class. Importantly, the class examines what these intersections mean in the American justice system.
