Criminal Prosecution Appeals – 6119

Criminal Prosecution Appeals is a simulation course that provides students with the opportunity to work with a County Attorney who is representing the State of Minnesota in a criminal appeal pending before the Minnesota Court of Appeals. The students in this Clinic work under the supervision of a criminal appeals attorney who has extensive experience researching and writing criminal appeals briefs and arguing before the Minnesota Court of Appeals and the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Students will learn the basics of appellate practice pursuant to the Minnesota Rules of Criminal and Appellate Procedure; the substantive criminal law relevant to the appeal they work on; and written and oral advocacy skills in the context of appellate practice. Cases presenting a variety of novel issues will be sought for the clinic. Students also will present oral arguments to a panel of experienced appellate practitioners.
