Email Accounts & Distribution Lists

*Students are responsible for all notices sent to their University of Minnesota email addresses.*

All University of Minnesota students registered in a degree program automatically receive a free email account from the University’s Central Computing Services. Accounts for incoming law students are available prior to the first day of classes, and may be initiated at: https://www.umn.edu/initiate. If a student elects to forward University email to another account, he or she is still responsible for all information, including attachments, sent to the other email account. The email account username and password also enable full internet access through the Law School wireless network and in the Library Computer Labs (Rooms 153 and 455).

Email Distribution Lists

The Law School administers email distribution lists for dissemination of important information to students, faculty, and staff. The email distribution system is reserved solely for communications relating to Law School events, departments, and official notices. Personal communications, solicitations, or other postings not relevant to the Law School will be discarded by the moderator. All email lists are moderated, and inappropriate communications will be rejected for distribution. Students may not opt out of a distribution list.

Notices sent to the student listservs are archived on https://inside.law.umn.edu/students.html.

The Law Council is responsible for disseminating communications on behalf of student organizations through the Law Council Digest, a weekly listing of events or announcements. The Law Council’s email communication policy can be found at w: Current Students / Student Activities / Law Council http://www.law.umn.edu/current/lawcouncil.html. To request a message be added to the Digest follow the instructions on the Law Council web page, or send your message via email to lccomm@umn.edu.
