Parking & Transportation Services 612-626-7275
Because of the typically high number of commuters to the University of Minnesota, parking can be difficult. You should plan to arrive early if you wish to park in a public surface lot. Other options include obtaining a permit in a contract parking lot, arranging a carpool with other students, or taking advantage of the public transportation system. Limited short-term hourly parking is available in the University 19th Avenue Ramp (two blocks south of the Law School), and the Municipal Parking Ramp adjacent to the Holiday Inn Metrodome (daily and contract). Rates are posted.
Carpool parking and contract parking are available on campus. See http://www1.umn.edu/pts/ for more information.
NOTE: Car thefts occur, so please lock your car doors. Do not leave anything in plain view that might attract burglars.
Campus Escort Service (safe walk service)
The Security Monitor Program offers a walking/biking escort service to and from campus locations and nearby adjacent neighborhoods. This service is available free to students, staff, faculty, and visitors of the University of Minnesota. To request an escort from a trained student security monitor, please call 624-WALK (9255) shortly before your desired departure time and walk safe.
Parking and Transportation Services provides a variety of options to individuals with disability parking needs. For general information, consult their website at: http://www1.umn.edu/pts/park/disability.html. For one-on-one assistance with special parking needs, call 612-626-7275, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Motorist Assistance Program (M.A.P.)
The Motorist Assistance Program (M.A.P.) is free for all University Parking Services’ customers. Services offered by M.A.P. include: unlocking vehicles, jump starts, changing flat tires, and referrals to a service station when a problem is beyond the scope of M.A.P. The program is available on the Twin Cities campus from 7:00 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday. Service is currently not available on weekends or official University holidays. Call 626-PARK (7275) to request assistance.
Motorcycle parking is available in all University parking facilities. Rates vary by type of facility and are posted at facility entrances. Motorcycles may not park in or near any bike rack, adjacent to any building or landscaped/grassy area, or in a contract lot without a valid permit. Mopeds are treated as motorcycles for driving violations and as bicycles for parking violations. Motorcycle contracts are also sold on an annual basis and are valid at several facilities.
