A law student’s official residency status is determined by the University of Minnesota, NOT by the Law School. Residence regulations and review procedures are established by the Board of Regents, and are administered by the Resident Classification and Reciprocity Office in the Office of Admissions, 240 Williamson Hall, East Bank, Twin Cities Campus, University of Minnesota. Gaining resident status after a student has begun to take classes at the University of Minnesota Law School is extremely difficult. While the opportunity to apply for resident status exists, the chance of attaining that status is small.
For more information on the policies and procedures for applying for and gaining resident status, contact the Resident Classification and Reciprocity Office in the Office of Admissions, in 240 Williamson Hall.
