On May 15, clinic student attorney Gaelen Schumann (’14) argued before the Eighth Circuit on behalf of a client who had been tortured by military officials in his country of origin but was denied asylum because he filed his application 33 days after the one-year deadline in his case. The attorney on behalf of the government acknowledged that this was not a case that "felt good" but argued that the Court did not have jurisdiction to consider the denial.

In August 2013, the Law School began the LL.M. Class of 2014 Program for Foreign Lawyers with a three-week orientation and introductory course. This year, the Law School welcomed 68 LL.M. students from 19 countries, 14 international exchange students, and 11 Humphrey Fellows from around the world.
The 2014 West Coast International LL.M. Job Fair will be held on Friday, February 21. This job fair is a recruitment venue for employers who are interested in enlisting international legal talents and for internationally trained lawyers who are currently enrolled in an LL.M. program at a participating law school. UCLA School of Law serves as the event's organizer and host while a consortium of 19 campuses participate in the program. The deadline for students to submit bids is Sunday, January 5, 2014.
