Robert P. Christensen ('74), a trial lawyer for more than 35 years, has been named 2011 dean-elect of the Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers of Minnesota (ACTLM). He will serve on the four-member executive board that oversees daily operations and on the Judicial Endorsement Committee, which assesses candidates for judicial election. Additional responsibilities include long-range leadership planning and membership recruitment.
He has been an active member of ACTLM for several years, serving on its Board of Directors, Long Range Planning Committee, Membership Committee, Honoree Selection Committee, and as secretary.
The ACTLM membership consists of trial specialists certified by either the Minnesota State Bar Association or the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification. Among its goals are education of lawyers, judges, and students on civil and criminal trial practice; dissemination of practical information; and analysis of legal proposals and issues, with public statements when appropriate.
Christensen began his career with Carlsen, Greiner & Law and practiced in various areas of litigation from 1974-86. He left the firm in 1986 to become a founding partner in Dunkley, Bennett & Christensen. He was the firm's senior litigator in employment, personal injury, commercial, and product liability cases. In 1991, he established Robert P. Christensen PA, which specializes in defective-product cases and claims brought under the Federal False Claims Act. He has practiced across Minnesota and the nation on trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts.
Christensen has been certified as a civil trial specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy since 1993. He is member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Minnesota Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers, the Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association (on the Board of Governors for ten years), and many other prestigious organizations.
