This past year has been rich with anniversaries. In the spring, we celebrated 100 years of clinical education. The Law School was a pioneer in the field, and it remains a leader. With 25 clinics, we boast one of the country's largest and most distinguished clinical programs, serving countless clients and training generations of students.
During the first week of October, we marked the Law School's 125th anniversary with lectures and a gala that brought more than 500 people to McNamara Center to commemorate the School's founding in 1888. We took that occasion to recognize some of the many alumni who have used their careers to shape the law in ways that benefit Minnesota and the nation.
This fall we also celebrated the 30th anniversary of our partnership with Uppsala University, a partnership that continues to offer wonderful exchange opportunities for our faculty and students. Finally, the Law School's Human Rights Center commemorated its 25th anniversary on December 10, International Human Rights day.
But even as we celebrate the milestones of the past, we are building for the future. To help us recruit and retain faculty of the caliber that have brought the Law School to national prominence, Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi just pledged $500,000 to endow the Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi LLP Distinguished Scholar Fund. With this generous gift, our Generations campaign now totals more than $60 million. Our $70 million goal is in sight.
As we approach the end of the year, I ask that you consider a gift to the Law School. We would not be celebrating 125 years of exceptional legal education if we didn’t have the support of our alumni and friends. With your help, we can keep that tradition going.
Best wishes for the New Year.
