Professor Jan Darpö received his LL.M. in 1991, and his LL.D. in 2001 (on the thesis "Reflection and Foresight"). He became an associate professor of law in 2002. Jan Darpö has been a senior lecturer in environmental law and public law at the Faculty of Law in Uppsala since 2004. Professor Darpö was a law clerk at the District Court in Falun between 1993 and 1995, and he became an additional member in the Environmental Court of Appeal in Stockholm between 2002 and 2004.

Professor Darpö's main interests in teaching and research are environmental protection, environmental liability, nature conservation and compensation, environmental criminal law and environmental procedure. He is co-ordinator of the research-programme ENFORCE (Enforcing Environmental Law in Europe). He has served as an expert for several governmental committees, including the Environmental Liability Committee (2005-2007) and Commission on Environmental Procedure (2007-). He has also been a research-evaluator for the IWT/Flanders under the Flemish government (2006), is a senior adviser in the EU's Conformity Study of measures of Member States to transpose Directives on Information and Public Participation in Environmental Matters (2008-), and is a Swedish expert in the UNECEs Task Force on Access to Justice under the Århus Convention (2006-).
