Alumni Named Lawyers of the Year
March 4, 2009—Three University of Minnesota Law School alumni have been selected for inclusion in the 15th edition of Best Lawyers in America in their specialty in Minnesota.
• Michael V. Ciresi ('71) of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi was named Minnesota Personal Injury Litigator of the Year for 2009. He has been listed in Best Lawyers since 1993.
• Alan C. Eidsness ('73) of Henson & Efron was named Minnesota Family Lawyer of the Year for 2009. He has been listed in Best Lawyers since 1995.
• Philip S. Garon ('72) of Faegre & Benson was named Minnesota Corporate Lawyer of the Year for 2009. He has been listed in Best Lawyers since 1991.
To compile its impartial lists of outstanding attorneys across the nation, Best Lawyers asks thousands of lawyers to evaluate their professional peers via confidential surveys. Current lists were created from the detailed evaluations of more than 2.5 million lawyers. Best Laywers has been publishing its lawyer-rating lists since 1983.
Its new Lawyers of the Year honor goes to lawyers who have received particularly high ratings and positive comments on surveys during the preceding two years. It is given to one lawyer in each community in one of six high-profile legal specialties: banking law, bet-the-company litigation, corporate law, family law, personal injury litigation, and real estate law.
Selection for Lawyer of the Year indicates the high regard of their peers for honorees' abilities, professionalism, and integrity. As Steven Naifeh, managing editor of Best Lawyers, says on the publication's Web site, "We continue to believe—as we have believed for more than 25 years—that recognition by one's peers is the most meaningful form of praise in the legal profession."
