Fiscal Year Ends Strong With Record-Breaking Alumni Giving

JULY 27, 2009—The Law School's Partners In Excellence annual fund set a new record in the 2008-09 fiscal year: Alumni and friends contributed $834,868, the largest-ever non-campaign annual fund total and a 4% increase over the previous year. Russ Michaletz ('77) led the drive as the 2008-09 Partners in Excellence National Chair.

The Partners at Work program, formed to acknowledge firms and corporations with multiple Law School alumni that achieve 100% participation in annual giving, also had tremendous success. Participation in annual giving rose from 46% last year to 58% in 2008-2009, and contributions increased 25%. Michaletz serves as the Partners at Work agent at Deloitte & Touche.

Overall, alumni and friends invested $8 million in the Law School in 2008-09, a 145% increase over the previous fiscal year, the largest being a gift of $6.01 million from the Robina Foundation.

The Partners in Excellence annual fund supplements endowment income and tuition revenue. With only 6% of the Law School's operating budget coming from the state, the program offers critical support for core programs and provides flexibility to take advantage of opportunities that arise throughout the year.

The Law School thanks Russ Michaletz for his leadership and everyone for their contributions to help ensure the continued success of Minnesota's great public law school.
