David F. Fisher has been appointed Executive Director of the University of Minnesota Law School's recently created Corporate Institute, announces Law School Dean David Wippman.

On April 18, 2012, the Law School and the University of Minnesota Criminal Justice League presented a panel discussion entitled "Trayvon Martin and Beyond: Vigilante Justice and the Criminalization of Color." As Lina Houston (’14) explained in her introduction, the forum's intent was to discuss the social and legal issues of the Trayvon Martin case, not debate its merits.

University of Minnesota human rights advocates traveled to U.N. headquarters in New York in March 2012 to attend and testify at the 104th session of the U.N. Human Rights Committee.

The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Professor Mary Alton the Minnesota Minority Small Business Champion of the Year. A champion is selected in each state annually for outstanding advocacy efforts on behalf of minority-owned small businesses.

When the national finals of the annual Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition get under way April 18-20, 2012, in Washington, D.C., Robert Pittelkow (’12) and Wesley Schwie (’12) will be there, representing the Law School's Intellectual Property Moot Court. If they advance to the final round of the single-elimination tournament, they will argue before a panel of judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Catharine F. Haukedahl (’79), a member of the Law School's Board of Advisors, has been selected to receive the 2012 Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) David Graven Public Service Award, given to the lawyer who best exemplifies high professional standards and a commitment to public or community service. She will accept the award at the April 26, 2012, MSBA meeting.

The Law School's American Constitution Society student chapter and Professor Richard W. Painter are proud to announce a presentation by California Supreme Court Associate Justice Goodwin Liu at 12:15-1:20 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012, in Lockhart Hall (Room 25) of Mondale Hall, 229 19th Ave. S., Minneapolis. The talk is entitled "Martin Luther King Jr. and the Good Samaritan" and will include a question-and-answer session.
