Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin has been selected to be a consultant on a study commissioned by U.N. Women and the U.N. Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, entitled "Reparations for Conflict-related Sexual Violence." She is concurrently the Dorsey & Whitney professor at the Law School and a professor, co-founder, and associate director of the Transitional Justice Institute, University of Ulster, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Gail Kulick (’85) was sworn in as the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe’s Commissioner of Corporate Affairs on June 10, 2011. As commissioner, she serves as the Chief Executive Officer and chair of the Board Of Directors for the Mille Lacs Band’s Corporate Commission, which analyzes new business opportunities and oversees the Band’s existing businesses, including Grand Casino Mille Lacs, Grand Casino Hinckley, and numerous small businesses.

Professor Myron Orfield, Executive Director of the Institute on Race & Poverty (IRP), spoke at a White House summit entitled "Forum on First Suburbs, Inclusion, Sustainability, and Economic Growth" on July 18.

This fall, the University of Minnesota Law School will add environmental and energy law to its growing list of concentrations. Professor Alexandra B. Klass will serve as faculty chair of the new concentration, developed to help J.D. and LL.M. students prepare to practice in a wide range of areas in environmental and energy law.

On July 12, 2011, Professor Ralph F. Hall joined a panel of experts on Capitol Hill to discuss legal policies and the effectiveness of the laws passed to counter health care fraud. The forum, "Health Care Fraud and Abuse Enforcement: What’s at Stake?," focused primarily on the pharmaceutical sector.

William Stock (’93) was elected 2011-12 Secretary of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) by the organization’s membership at the 55th annual conference in San Diego in June 2011.

On July 1, 2011, the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) elected three new officers for the 2011-12 bar year. Phil Duran, a 2000 graduate of the Law School, was chosen as Treasurer of MSBA and assumed his role on Friday. With the office, Duran is on track to become the 2013-14 MSBA President.
