Last fall Lois Conroy ('97) was elected and recently she was sworn in as a judge on Minnesota's Fourth Judicial District Court. The former prosecutor handled more than 1,000 cases for Minneapolis and Hennepin County in a variety of areas before joining the bench.

June Carbone, currently the Edward A. Smith/Missouri Chair of Law, the Constitution and Society at the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC), will join the Law School faculty on June 28, 2013, as the inaugural holder of the Robina Chair in Law, Science and Technology. She has been at UMKC since 2007.

The Minnesota Law Review has named Judge Donald D. Alsop ('52) and John Gould ('53) to receive its Distinguished Alumni Award for 2013, given for exceptional contributions to the profession and to the greater good of society. The awards will be presented at the Law Review's annual banquet on April 11, 2013, at Windows on Minnesota (IDS Center) in Minneapolis.

Kyle Hawkins (’09), currently an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Washington, D.C., has done some traveling over the years. But he won't have to go far to get to his new post. Just a few blocks south from the firm's office and a left on Constitution Avenue will bring him to the U.S. Supreme Court building, where he has accepted a clerkship with Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., beginning July 2013.

This summer, third-year Law School student Anne Dwyer will begin a year-long Winston Health Policy Fellowship in Washington, D.C. She is one of only two, from 37 applicants nationwide, to be awarded the prestigious post-graduate fellowship geared to introduce Fellows to public- and private-sector functions in health policy development.

Michael A. Wolff (’70), a professor and co-director of the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Law at St. Louis University (SLU) School of Law, has been named the school's new dean, effective immediately.

The University of Minnesota Law School and Briggs and Morgan, P.A., are co-sponsoring the Second Annual Patent Symposium, "Patent Law after the America Invents Act" from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 12, in Lockhart Hall (Room 25) of Mondale Hall, 229 19th Ave. S., Minneapolis.

The University of Minnesota Law School's ABA Moot Court Team of 3Ls Michael Kruckow and Bradley Prowant won the opportunity to compete in the finals at the regional rounds of the National Appellate Advocacy Competition held recently in San Francisco. Kruckow also won sixth Best Oralist Award. The national final rounds will be held in Chicago on April 4-6, 2013.

The second annual Diversity Week will be held March 11-15, 2013, at the Law School. The student-conceived event celebrates the diversity of the Law School community and offers presentations and panel discussions to engage faculty, students, and staff in discussions and learning on issues of equity and diversity in the legal system.
