Judge Toddrick Barnette (’92), Joseph T. Dixon Jr. (’69), Leslie M. Altman (’83) Receive HCBA Awards

Three Law School alumni will receive Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA) awards at the 93rd annual luncheon meeting and awards presentation on May 24, 2012, at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center. Judge Toddrick Barnette (’92) and Joseph T. Dixon Jr. (’69) will receive the Professionalism Award, and Leslie M. Altman (’83) will receive the Diversity Award.

Class of 2012 Students Honored at Awards Ceremony and Reception

The Law School welcomed graduates and their families for the 2012 Student Awards and Recognition Ceremony, held at 3:00 p.m., May 11 in Lockhart Hall. The event acknowledged outstanding student achievement among those in the Class of 2012, prior to the May 12 Commencement.

On May 12 the Law School held its 124th commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2012 at Mariucci Arena. Law School Dean David Wippman welcomed the graduates, their families and friends, and this year's special guests: University of Minnesota Regent David McMillan (’87), Executive Vice President of Minnesota Power; Arlene Carney, Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs; and keynote speaker Senator Al Franken.

Dana Bartocci Elected President of Minnesota Women Lawyers

Dana Bartocci, the Career Center's employer relations and alumni advisor, was elected the 2012-13 president of Minnesota Women Lawyers (MWL) at the association's 40th annual meeting on May 9, 2012. Bartocci succeeds 2011-12 President Carrie Daniel Russell, associate general counsel for Graco Inc.

Bridget Ahmann (’85) and Joseph Price (’72) Win Law Firm Legal Writing Burton Award

Alumni Bridget Ahmann (’85) and Joseph Price (’72), along with their Faegre Baker Daniels colleagues Jennifer Dukart and Denise Kettelberger, received a 2012 Burton Award for Legal Achievement in the law firm legal writing category for their article "We're Not in Kansas Anymore, Toto: Product Liability Biologics and Biosimilars."

Phillip Walters (’12) Wins Burton Award for Legal Writing

Phillip Walters (’12) is the winner of a 2012 Burton Award for Legal Achievement in the law school legal writing category for his article, "'Would a Cop Do This?': Ending the Practice of Sexual Sampling in Prostitution Stings." The article was published in Vol. 29, No. 2, Summer 2011, of Law and Inequality: A Journal of Theory and Practice.

Vic Massaglia Elected to NALP Board of Directors

Career Counselor Vic Massaglia was elected to a two-year term on the board of directors at the National Association for Law Placement's (NALP) annual business meeting on April 20, 2012. NALP's Board of Directors serves as its governing body and consists of 13 members.

Senator Al Franken to Speak at Law School Commencement

Dean David Wippman is pleased to announce that Senator Al Franken will be the speaker at the 124th Law School commencement ceremony, to be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Mariucci Arena, 1901 S.E. 4th St., Minneapolis.
