Law School Democrats Present: Jacob Frey, Minneapolis City Councilman for the Third Ward

Councilman Frey will discuss: the prevalence of lawyers running for public office, his legal career, and give advice to law students on working in politics.

Councilman Frey was elected to represent the Third Ward of Minneapolis in 2003. The Third Ward covers many parts of the University of Minnesota campus. Councilman Frey previously practiced law at Faegre & Benson and Halunen & Assoc.

Councilman Frey founded The Big Gay Race, mobilizing nearly 9,000 people, and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for marriage equality. Councilman Frey enabled numerous clients facing homelessness to stay in their homes, and get their lives back on track.

Councilman Frey helped Isuroon -- an organization devoted to the empowerment of Somali women. Councilman Frey practiced civil rights law, representing employees who are discriminated against in the workplace.

Councilman Frey was awarded the First Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Award by the City of Minneapolis for his work in furtherance of civil rights.
