Minn. Court of Appeals Holds Special Session at Law School

NOVEMBER 13, 2008—On Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, the Minnesota Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in a special session at the University of Minnesota Law School. Chief Judge Edward Toussaint Jr., Judge Lawrence T. Collins, and Judge Gordon Shumaker will hear the following cases.

  • 9:30 a.m.: Chadwick Banken, et. al., Appellants, v. G. Scott Hoke, et. al., Respondents (A08-160). Appeal from a judgment that dismissed an action alleging legal malpractice, based on a determination that appellants failed to comply with the expert affidavit requirements of Minnesota Statute § 544.42
  • 10:05 a.m.: American Employers Insurance Company, et. al., Respondents, v. Robinson Outdoors, Inc., f/k/a Robinson Laboratories, Inc., Appellant (A08-510). Appeal from a judgment confirming an arbitration award that determined that insurance coverage was not available to appellant for the amount paid to settle a suit alleging false advertising and the amount of interest and attorney fees owed
  • 10:40 a.m.: State of Minnesota, Respondent, v. Thomes Bail Bonds, Appellant (A08-302). Appeal from a decision requiring that 10% of the amount of bail bonds posted be forfeited, after the defendant failed to appear for a scheduled court date and then eluded authorities for approximately one week before he was taken into custody

The session will take place in Room 25 of the Law School’s Mondale Hall and is open to the public. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend.
