Prof. Jane Kirtley's op-ed column, "More people are knocking at the door. Let them in," appeared in the March 15, 2009 issue of the St. Paul Pioneer Press to kick off Sunshine Week (March 15-21), which promotes open government. She wrote another op-ed column, "Respect. That's What Open Government is All About," which appears on the Sunshine Week web site and has been published in numerous newspapers in South Carolina, West Virginia, California, Colorado and Illinois. She was also quoted in an Associated Press story about Minnesota law on the online availability of government records.

Professor Claire Hill was interviewed on WCCO television for the segment, Good Question. The segment titled, "Why Do People Who Fail Get Bonuses?" discussed executive compensation and the AIG bonuses.

In February, Minneapolis Public School (MPS)Superintendent Bill Green submitted a resolution to the MPS school board for the district to pull out of membership in the West Metro Education Program (WMEP). In response, Orfield and Institute on Race & Poverty staff engaged with parents of WMEP school students, community organizing agencies, the NAACP, and MPS board members in an effort to block passage of the resolution. On March 10, 2009, the Superintendent tabled the resolution and called on all interested parties, including IRP, to participate in establishing an action plan to improve WMEP, better engage WMEP member districts, and further school integration and student achievement.

Professor Susan Wolf, McKnight Presidential Professor of Law, Medicine and Public Policy and chair of the Consortium on Law and Values in Health, Environment and the Life Sciences was on the Minnesota Public Radio program Midmorning discussing President Obama's stem cell executive order and new memorandum on scientific integrity.
