James Chosy (’89) Named U.S. Bancorp Executive V.P. and General Counsel
DECEMBER 14, 2012—Effective March 1, 2013, James L. Chosy (’89), chair of the Law School's Board of Advisors, will return to U.S. Bancorp after a 12-year absence, this time as executive vice president and general counsel. He will serve on the 15-member managing committee and report to U.S. Bancorp president and CEO, Richard Davis.
He was appointed to his new role in connection with the retirement of Lee Mitau (’72), who has been executive vice president and general counsel at U.S. Bancorp since 1995.
Currently Chosy is managing director, general counsel, and secretary at Piper Jaffray Companies, where he has provided legal counsel in such areas as governance, corporate and securities law and mergers and acquisitions since 2001. Previously, from 1995-2001, he was vice president, associate general counsel, and also served as secretary with U.S. Bancorp.
This past summer, Chosy was recognized for his extensive volunteer work with the University of Minnesota's 2012 Alumni Service Award. He has served on the Law School's Board of Advisors since 2006; co-chaired the 2009-10 Partners in Excellence Annual Fund with his wife, Julie Chosy (’90); and chaired the Law School's Development Committee for fiscal years 2011 and 2012.
Both Chosy and Mitau serve on the GENERATIONS campaign cabinet, are members of the Corporate Institute's inaugural Board of Advisors, and are active supporters and leaders of many Law School activities.
