Joan Humes (’90) Becomes a Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Medtronic
MARCH 9, 2011—Joan Humes (’90) was promoted to oversee the Litigation and Investigations Function at Medtronic Inc., with the title of Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and Investigations.
Humes joined Medtronic in February 2010 with the responsibility of managing government and internal investigations and related litigation matters. In her new position, she will report directly to D. Cameron Findlay, Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary, and will be a member of Findlay’s senior Legal Team Leaders group.
Prior to joining Medtronic, Humes served as General Counsel for the Public and Senior Markets Group at United Health Group since 2008. When she joined United Health Group in 2006, she began as a Senior Deputy General Counsel.
After earning a J.D. from the Law School, Humes clerked for the Honorable James M. Rosenbaum (’69) in the U.S. District Court for two years. In 1992, she became an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Minnesota. In 1994 she became a federal prosecutor, and later, Civil Chief of the U.S. Attorney's Office in Minnesota.
Humes currently serves on the Law School’s Board of Advisors and was the former president of the Alumni Board. She most recently co-chaired with Jan Conlin (’88) the transition committee to merge the two boards into a single, consolidated Board of Advisors.
