Joseph Klein ('86) Named Hennepin County Judge
JULY 16, 2009—Joseph R. Klein was appointed to Minnesota's Fourth Judicial District trial court bench by Gov. Tim Pawlenty ('86) on July 14, 2009, filling the vacancy left after the September 2008 death of Judge Steven A. Pihlaja. The Fourth Judicial District serves Hennepin County only and is Minnesota's largest trial court, receiving approximately 800,000 cases annually.
Klein has worked at the law office of Andrew P. Sherwood in Roseville since 2006 and served as house counsel for the Progressive Group of Insurance Companies.
Previously, he served as a contract attorney with Universal Underwriters Group (2005-06), an attorney with Zurich North American Insurance (2004-05), a quality assurance supervisor with Medical Evaluations Inc. (2000-03), and an attorney and shareholder with Moss and Barnett (1987-2000).
He is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and its Civil Litigation Section, the Hennepin County Bar Association, and the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association. He has been a member of the Minnesota Trial Lawyers Association and a Certified Civil Trial Specialist.
Klein received his J.D. from the Law School in 1986 and his B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1982.
