Phil Duran (’00) Elected Treasurer of Minnesota State Bar Association
JULY 5, 2011—On July 1, 2011, the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) elected three new officers for the 2011-12 bar year. Phil Duran, a 2000 graduate of the Law School, was chosen as Treasurer of MSBA and assumed his role on Friday. With the office, Duran is on track to become the 2013-14 MSBA President.
Duran is the Legal Director of OutFront Minnesota, the state’s largest GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) advocacy organization, located in Minneapolis. He is also a staff attorney for the Management Assistance Program for Nonprofits.
In 2010, Duran advocated for the MSBA’s endorsement of a marriage-equality resolution. He has also worked with the Minnesota AIDS Project and the Chicago office of Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund.
Duran has served on the board of the Minnesota Lavender Bar Association and the Minneapolis Civil Rights Commission. In 1997, he received a Community Service Award from the Human Rights Campaign for his work in his native Michigan.
With over 16,000 members, the MSBA is the state’s largest voluntary organization of attorneys, providing continuing legal education and public service opportunities for lawyers and assistance to the legal system.
