Law School Hosts Pro Bono Week Public Interest Expo
OCTOBER 27, 2009—This week, Oct. 25-31, 2009, is the first annual National Pro Bono Week, sponsored by the ABA's Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service. The program was initiated to acknowledge the work of pro bono lawyers across the nation and the differences they make in the communities and lives of those they serve.
In addition, the Pro Bono Committee hopes to recruit additional volunteers to meet the growing need for pro bono services. Although the program is national, its impact and focus are intended to be local, to meet the legal needs of the poor in the community where the week's events take place.
Coordinated with Pro Bono Week, a public interest expo has been organized at the Law School for law students, public interest agencies, and pro bono attorneys. Attendees will meet public interest and government lawyers from the local community and learn about the work of lawyers in public interest or government positions. The event is sponsored by the Minnesota Justice Foundation (MJF) and the four area law schools.
