Professor Sedo Accepts ABA Committee Position

NOVEMBER 18, 2008—Kathryn J. Sedo, Professor of Clinical Instruction at the University of Minnesota Law School, has been appointed vice chair of the ABA’s Committee on Low Income Taxpayers and will become chair on July 1, 2009. In welcoming Professor Sedo to the 2008-09 leadership team, Section of Taxation Chair William J. Wilkins said, “Your selection as a Committee Vice Chair represents a recognition by your peers of your abilities and contributions to the work of the Section.”

The Committee on Low Income Taxpayers lends an informed voice to matters that affect low-income taxpayers, both broad law and procedure issues and day-to-day tax law administration concerns. It addresses, for example, earned income and other tax credits, personal-exemption deductions, dependent qualifications, and tax collections.

Professor Sedo will attend Section meetings in Washington, D.C., and manage the Committee. Some of her responsibilities are to oversee programs and projects intended to affect the development and administration of tax laws, maintain the Section’s high-quality CLE activities, groom high-level members for leadership roles, and work to involve younger members on the Committee.

Professor Sedo joined the Law School’s clinical faculty in 1979. She is director of the Tax Clinic and teaches tax procedure.
