Terry Vajgrt (’89) Named Fifth Judicial District Judge

JANUARY 19, 2012—Terry Vajgrt (’89) has been appointed to Minnesota’s Fifth Judicial District Court bench, Gov. Mark Dayton's office announced Jan. 18, replacing Judge Timothy K. Connell, who retired last October. Vajgrt will have chambers in Pipestone and Rock counties, two of the 15 counties in southwestern Minnesota encompassed by the Fifth Judicial District.

Currently, Vajgrt is an assistant public defender for the state of Minnesota; contracts with Minnesota counties to provide representation for adults; and works in private practice focused on criminal defense. Previously, he was a partner at Klosterbuer and Vajgrt, an assistant Rock County attorney, and an assistant city attorney in Luverne, where Vajgrt makes his home and the county seat of Rock County. He also taught criminal law as an adjunct professor at Colorado Technical University.

Vajgrt chairs the Nobles-Rock Community Corrections Advisory Board, serves on the Board of Directors of the Southwestern Mental Health Center, and is active in the Rock County Big Buddies Program. He is a former president of the Luverne Community Health Care Foundation.
