Washburn Testifies Before Congress

FEBRUARY 25, 2008 — Kevin K. Washburn, an associate professor at the Law School who is spending this year as the Oneida Nation Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School, will testify before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources on February 27. He has been asked to comment on a controversial new policy adopted by the U.S. Department of the Interior on off-reservation acquisitions of land in trust for Indian gaming. A draft of his testimony is available at Social Science Research Network.

This will be Professor Washburn’s fifth appearance before a congressional committee in less than three years. He is one of only a handful of law professors in the nation to be formally consulted by Congress this frequently. Most of his testimony has centered on Indian gaming.
