Field Trips and Other Activities

As part of their classwork, students will take several field trips to legal institutions in Beijing. Planned visits include the Supreme People's Court, National People’s Congress, and Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning and Design. Field trips are associated with particular courses, but all students in the program are welcome to participate.

In addition, the program will host several professional development and cultural evenings featuring practicing lawyers from international and local law firms and government agencies. They will share insights gained from their experiences in the legal profession in China. Chinese natives will also participate in discussions and activities surrounding Chinese culture. The events will be followed by a brief social hour.

Optional visits to important historical sites in Beijing, including the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and Summer Palace, take place on weekends. Students are responsible for the costs (e.g., entrance fees) of these optional visits. Also, the program will organize an optional trip to Shanghai (July 9-12) for interested students. Shanghai is the commercial center of China and, as a major port city, an international trading center. The trip will include meetings with lawyers and business people and provide an opportunity to visit the cultural sights in the area. There will be an additional charge for this optional visit.
