Financial Institutions Law Seminar

Course Description:

During this seminar, students will be introduced to various aspects of financial institutions law, including: Financial Holding Companies and new powers under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 such as securities and insurance, history and themes of bank and thrift regulations, mega mergers and competition, lending and trust powers, branching, consumer regulation and the Community Reinvestment Act. Issues discussed will be consistent with the kinds of issues that banking lawyers would expect to see in a regulatory practice. As part of the coursework, each student will research and write a paper on a banking issue or issues of current concern.
