Mark A. Cohen
Director of Communications
Mark A. Cohen is Director of Communications for the University of Minnesota Law School. He brings more than two decades of experience as a communicator and storyteller. As a legal journalist, he ran or wrote for law-related publications in five states, including serving for more than a decade as the editor-in-chief of Minnesota Lawyer. He also was a content strategist for an Am-Law 100 law firm and associate director of the American Bar Association’s Division for Public Education, where he oversaw publications and key ABA educational initiatives such as Law Day. He has a B.A. in English from Providence College, an M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas, and a J.D. from Boston College Law School.
Associate Director of Communications
Monica Wittstock has served as the Assistant Director of Communications for the University of Minnesota Law School since July 2018. Prior to her current role, she worked for five years as the Communications and Development Manager for the Robina Institute of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice. Monica is the 2019-20 Chair of the University of Minnesota Communicators Forum and the Chair of the University’s Diversity Community of Practice communications subcommittee. She has a B.A. in Multidisciplinary Studies from the University of Minnesota and is currently completing a Master’s degree in Strategic Communications from the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota.
Digital Marketing Specialist
Luke Johnson has served as Communications Specialist at the University of Minnesota Law School since February 2016. In this role, he directs social media strategy and collaborates in building meaningful relationships with Minnesota Law’s diverse stakeholders. Prior to his current role, Luke co-led digital content strategy at the National Youth Leadership Council, a St. Paul-based nonprofit. Luke is an incoming member of the University of Minnesota Communicators Forum’s Membership and Marketing Committee. He has a B.A. in English from the University of Minnesota and will soon complete an M.A. in Strategic Communications from the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Minnesota.
Olivia Kurtz joined the Law School staff in 2019 as Events Manager. Olivia worked as an event intern, event coordinator, and senior event coordinator for the University of Minnesota Foundation from 2015-18. While at the UMF, she helped plan the launch of the Driven campaign. Most recently, Olivia has been a private events coordinator for Cooks of Crocus Hill, orchestrating more than 250 private events held over three locations. She is an alum of the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities, where she obtained her B.A. in Communications Studies with a minor in Retail Merchandising.
Web Developer and Content Manager
Sue Minor works on the University of Minnesota Law School website, making direct edits, providing training and support for other staff who update site content, and acting as a liaison between the IT and Communications teams. Before coming to the University, Sue worked at Pasadena City College as a nationally certified sign language interpreter and, upon moving to Minnesota, did educational software testing and technical support at MECC, makers of “The Oregon Trail” and “Number Munchers.” Sue has a B.A. in Anthropology from New Mexico State University.
