Patent Prosecution Practice II – 5232

Spring 2016

THIS SECTION FOR MSPL STUDENTS ONLY.  JD STUDENTS MAY ENROLL IN #6232.

This course builds on the foundation from Patent Prosecution Practice I. In this course, we will study advanced patent prosecution and patent practice matters including a review of prosecution-related Federal Circuit cases, appeals practice before the USPTO, opinions, post grant challenge procedures, design patents, foreign prosecution and more. The course is highly practical and will include take-home projects and in-class exercises. Master of Science Patent Law Students only

Students will also complete a writing assignment that is a simulation of the real-world patent prosecution environment where a junior associate or agent prepares a patent application for review by a senior associate or partner.  The writing credit will consist of the preparation of an entire patent application, including claims and specification.  The application is then reviewed by an assigned advisor and the final application is prepared, incorporating the advisor’s suggested changes.
