Sales Law – 6052

Sales Law is a problem-focused course designed to teach the workings of Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and, equally important, to help students develop the skill of reading, interpreting, and applying any statute. The subject matter parallels in many respects the subject matter of the first year Contracts course (formation and interpretation of contracts, determining breach, and applying remedies), but the source of law differs (statutory vs. common law) as does the substantive content of many of the rules.

A primary text for the course is the UCC itself, since the goal is to have students master the relevant Code provisions through reading, interpreting, and applying the Code. The casebook for the course uses questions about the Code language, examples from decided case law, and problems based on real cases to help students learn to read and apply the language effectively.
