Integrative Leadership: From Theory to Practice – 6623

In the 21st century, leaders in business, government and civil society sectors need to be able to communicate and collaborate in new ways to meet grand challenges ranging from improving public education in local schools, to writing smarter national regulations for smart electricity grids, promoting democracy in the developing world, and mitigating the destructive effects of climate change globally.  This course surveys “integrative leadership” principles and practices as a response to that need.  It explores personal, group, organizational and broader societal aspects of integrative leadership through a combination of readings, case studies, exercises and discussion with successful integrative leaders.  Co-taught by faculty and drawing graduate students from multiple colleges, the principal course goal is to identify and apply core concepts and practical frameworks for analyzing and responding to grand challenges from an integrative leadership perspective.
