Energy Project Development and Finance – 6877

Fall 2015
David Quinby

This course will focus on the practical aspects of how energy projects are developed, financed and ultimately put into operation. It will also address general issues applicable to all types of infrastructure project finance (including beyond the energy context). Without a reasonable understanding of this process and the “rules” that apply, energy policy can result in good intentions without the desired results. While the focus will be on electrical generation, this course is intended to be broad enough to cover key aspects applicable to most types of energy projects (traditional power, renewable, oil & gas, etc.). While each may have nuances that influence the process and legal issues, the fundamentals of development and project finance apply to all. We will, however, explore some of these nuances to provide context and, hopefully, interesting challenges that must be addressed in the process.
