Antitrust Mergers – 6617

This course is structured so that no previous antitrust course background is needed. This course will focus on antitrust merger analysis as part of the risk assessment in the merger and acquisition context. It will include a background into the economics that underpin the analysis of antitrust merger law via the new 2010 Horizontal Merger Guidelines. Classes will discuss recent cases of how courts have dealt with issues such as market definition, efficiencies, effects, risk shifting provisions and various remedies in industries and topics ranging from supermarkets, pharmaceuticals, health care, telecommunications, standard essential patents, software, insurance, airlines, financial institutions and internet. No prerequisites
