The Human Rights in Practice series is an ongoing program of the Human Rights Center aimed to allow students to engage with international law and human rights practitioners in an informal setting to explore diverse career paths in the field.

Emily Hutchinson (‘13) is the program manager for the New Tactics in Human Rights program at the Center for Victims of Torture. Emily leads the global program and is responsible for strategic planning, development and management. Emily is an attorney with significant management experience in the U.S., Middle East, North Africa, and the Balkans. Emily has worked with governments and civil society organizations on a wide range of human rights, transitional justice, and post-conflict governance issues.

Emily previously served as Counsel at the Public International Law and Policy Group, as well as the regional program coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Businesswomen’s Network. Emily has also managed campaigns for state-wide election and served as the first executive director of Mill City Commons, a non-profit health and wellness organization headquartered in Minneapolis. Emily holds a J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School, an M.A. in Middle East Studies and International Economics from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, and a B.A. in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University.
