Professor Fatma Marouf will provide a real-time update on legal challenges to the Trump administration's travel ban targeting nationals of several Muslim-majority countries. Professor Marouf will explain the status of the still pending travel ban cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, Trump v Hawaii, and Trump v. IRAP, and she will discuss where ongoing litigation to block the administration's travel bans may head next in the federal courts, including the Supreme Court.

Professor Marouf has led immigration scholars in important amicus curiae briefs opposing the travel ban filed with the U.S. Supreme Court and lower federal courts of appeals. In addition to her advocacy in the travel ban litigation, Marouf's scholarship explores the intersections of immigration law, international human rights law, and constitutional law. Her recent projects have examined the rights of mentally incompetent individuals in removal proceedings, the exclusion of DREAMers from the Affordable Care Act, and community-based alternatives to immigration detention. Professor Marouf also engages in empirical research to expand understanding of judicial decision-making and implicit bias in immigration appeals.
