Racial Justice Law Clinic Featured in U of M's "Building a Better World" Series
Minnesota Law's new Racial Justice Law Clinic, led by associate clinical professor Liliana Zaragoza, is highlighted today in the University of Minnesota's newly launched "Building a Better World" series. The series focuses on ways in which the University "is adapting to the needs of a rapidly changing world by creating new ways of thinking, of doing, and of being."Â
Meet the Class: 1L Mikaela Smith, Led Effort to Save Her Collegiate Sailing Team Â
Meet 1L Mikaela Smith, who, after walking on as a freshman, was a member of George Washington University’s sailing team for four years. When GW cut a number of varsity sports, including sailing, Smith worked with the administration, embarked on a fundraising campaign, and led other efforts that helped secure the team’s future as a club program. She was unanimously elected president of the club’s executive board. This spring, the team was ranked 11th in the nation, higher than any other club team.

Meet 1L Lauren Hamilton, who after establishing a career in food & wine photography, decided to continue her education, and enrolled in UCLA. Hamilton received her Bachelor's degree cum laude and is seeking to create an impact in the public and international sectors.

Minnesota Law Mourns the Passing of Former District Court Judge David Sullivan '66
Former 6th Judicial District Court Judge David P. Sullivan ’66  passed away on Sept. 6 at age 80.
Raised in Cloquet, Minnesota, Sullivan attended the University of Minnesota as an undergraduate and then went on to the Law School. He was a civil litigator for more than 30 years thirty years. His practice included family law, products liability and construction litigation. In 1988, he co-founded Sullivan & Setterlund.
Meet the LL.M. Class: Samkelo Dlamini of EswatiniÂ
Meet Samkelo Dlamini of Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland), who is a Fulbright scholar. Dlamini, who received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Swaziland, is a member of the Law Society of Eswatini and the South Africa Compliance Institute, He most recently served as a legal officer with the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Swaziland. He is interested in pursuing banking and finance law to help alleviate poverty in Eswatini.Â

Meet the Class: 1L Shaadie Ali, Geological Engineer & Civil Rights Advocate
1L Shaadie Ali comes to Minnesota Law with an impressive public service background, having served as interim deputy executive director and interim executive director of the ACLU of Wisconsin. With a degree in geological engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he is looking to add a legal lens to his technical background to become a leader in creative problem solving.
Meet the Class: 1L Hans Holzner Brings a Global Perspective and Love of Languages Â
1L Hans Holzner grew up in a multicultural and multilingual home with an American mother and a Mexican father whose parents were Italian immigrants from the German-speaking part of northern Italy. When Holzner was two years old, his family moved to Chad, Africa, where they lived for the next 10 years. He has also lived in France and Spain, and spent significant time in Cameroon, Kenya, and Italy.
Minnesota Law Mourns the Passing of Roberta Levy ’64, Trailblazing Judge and Law Professor Â
Roberta K. Levy ‘64, a retired longtime Hennepin County District Court judge who was a law professor at Minnesota Law from 1975-77, died on Aug. 30 in Aventura, Florida, at the age of 85.
Meet the Class: 1L Chad Peltier, Former U.S. Navy Research Psychologist
After earning his Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Michigan State University, 1L Chad Peltier, was recruited by the U.S. Navy to oversee the Submarine Force’s psychological screening program. Peltier, who also holds a master's degree in public administration, is enrolled in the joint J.D./MBA program. He would like to one day use his combined skills to help create well-informed, evidence-based health care policy.
