U.N Report by Prof. Fionnuala Ní Aoláin Quoted in the Wall Street Journal Describes Conditions at Syrian Refugee Camp

A United Nations report written Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin that described a refugee camp in Syria was quoted in the Wall Street Journal. Tens of thousands of civilians are being kept in camps including in Al-Hol, which are filled with the families of Islamic State militants and others inadvertently swept up in the chaos of northeast Syria. Ní Aoláin visited that camp last July as part of her role as U.N. Special Rapporteur. In her report, she said, “Insecurity pervades daily life in the camp, and incidents of violence, including murder, physical harm, intimidation and sexual assault occur with some regularly, with no investigation or measures in place to prevent recurrence.”
