Ms. Alasmari earned her bachelor’s degree in Law and Political Science from King Saud University in Saudi Arabia in 2013. She also participated in English language programs in California. Her thesis was on the topic of crimes against humanity and she hopes to continue learning about such crimes this upcoming year. Ms. Alasmari is also hoping to study international human rights, and is interested in learning about protecting human rights around the world. She loves to travel and learn about other cultures, and is looking forward to doing both in the United States.

Ms. Alharbi earned her bachelor’s of law in Islamic Law from Umm Al-Qura University in 2015. She is particularly interested in the Intellectual Property concentration, which is not common in Saudi Arabia. Ms. Alharbi is also passionate about human rights and justice initiatives. She was drawn to the University of Minnesota Law School because of its incredible course selection and the wonderful Intellectual Property faculty. Upon completing her LL.M., Ms. Alharbi hopes to become a professor at a leading institution in Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Aljuaie earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from King Saud University in Saudi Arabia in 2013. After graduating, he worked as a legal advisor for the Advanced Center for Civil Engineer for one year. He loves to engage in intellectual discussions about politics and the law. He is particularly interested in trials and the role of judges and juries. Mr. Aljuaie is especially looking forward to engaging in public speaking and further developing his communication skills.

Mr. Almulhim received his bachelor’s of law in Islamic Law from Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud University in Saudi Arabia in 2015. During his undergraduate experience, Mr. Almulhim worked for a law firm in Saudi Arabia. After graduating, he began working for the Institute of Public Administration, where he served as a teaching assistant in the Administrative Law Department. He is looking forward to further studying administrative and comparative law while at the University of Minnesota Law School.

Qatar

Mr. Alsulaiti received his bachelor’s degree in Law from Qatar University in 2015. While his father was studying law, Mr. Alsulaiti often studied with him, and he was inspired by his father to become an attorney. After earning his bachelor’s degree, he became a teaching assistant at the Qatar University College of Law. He is looking forward to specializing in Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution in order to relieve some of the pressures on the courts in his home country. Mr. Alsulaiti hopes to use his expertise to help draft Qatari law and encourage alternative dispute resolution.

Mr. Arrieta received his bachelor’s degree in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in 2013. After graduating he worked at a law firm specializing in criminal cases, and later began working for the Center of Open Information “Liber” in Peru, which focuses on government transparency. He is particularly interested in studying criminal procedure. After this year he hopes to return to Peru and work as a criminal prosecutor. Mr. Arrieta hopes to use his degree to fight government corruption and promote transparency in the Peruvian government.

Ms. Basalem earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from King Saud University in Saudi Arabia in 2013. During her academic career she also studied Roman and Greek history and enjoys learning about other cultures. Ms. Basalem wrote her thesis on the rights of journalists, specifically in the context of international humanitarian law. Prior to coming to Minnesota, she studied English in California. After this year she plans on returning to Saudi Arabia and earning her PhD in law with a focus on international law and human rights law.

Mr. Furkan Benliogullari
Turkey

Mr. Benliogullari earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from Fatih University Law School in Istanbul, Turkey in 2016. During his career he worked at a law firm and also spend a summer interning in Germany. He is especially passionate about combating social injustices and political authoritarianism. Mr. Benliogullari is looking forward to further studying democracy and spreading democratic ideals in Turkey. During his time in Minnesota he hopes to study comparative constitutional law. After this year he plans on returning to Turkey to help develop policies that will promote a stable democracy.

Mr. Bokhari received his bachelor’s degree in Law from King Abdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia in 2008. He spent all four years of his undergraduate career volunteering for the Finance and Investment Club at his university. After graduating, he worked at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology as an ID operator. Last year, he studied English at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. With regards to his master’s of law degree, Mr. Bokhari is primarily interested in International Business Law, although he is also interested in Health Law and IP Law.

Mr. Brannaschk received his bachelor’s degree in Law from Humboldt University of Berlin in 2015. Since starting his undergraduate career in 2010, he has held a variety of internships and jobs in the legal field. Most notably, he worked at the Ministry of Interior of the State of Brandenburg, in the Regional Criminal Court in Berlin, and interned with the European Parliament in Brussels. His interest in U.S. law stems from a United States Constitutional Law course he took during his undergraduate career. His goal is to gain a global perspective on the European project and work on maintaining European unification.

Ecuador

Mr. Chacon received his bachelor’s degree in Law from the Universidad de los Hemisferios in Ecuador in 2016. While earning his degree, he worked as an intern at a legal aid clinic, interned in the Tributary Law Department of a firm, and also worked as an assistant coordinator at an arbitration center. His home country of Ecuador is known for its political struggles and inequalities, and this is what inspired him to become a lawyer. Although his family is highly involved in the medical field, Mr. Chacon decided to break from tradition and become a lawyer in order to give back to his community. He is especially involved with providing legal assistance to low-income families.

Mr. Chang received his bachelor’s degree in Law from Chung Yuan Christian University in 2007. While at university, he participated on the moot court competition team and volunteered at his local district court. He then continued his education, earning his master’s degree in Law from Fu Jen Catholic University in 2015. His area of expertise is financial and economic law, and he has worked extensively in this field. Mr. Chang hopes to study securities and exchange law in the United States and use what he learns to help bolster the Taiwanese system regarding securities and exchanges.

Ms. Chen earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in 2013. She continued her education at the same university, earning her master’s degree in Law in 2016 with a focus on Intellectual Property Law. Prior to earning her degrees, she participated in an international forum on IP, solidifying her interest in this field. While she has worked extensively with the Copyright Law, she is also interested in Business Law. Mr. Chen was an assistant researcher at the National Intellectual Property Strategy Research Base of China from 2013 to 2015 and she plans to join a law firm after she return to China.

Ms. Chien earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from National Chengchi University in Taiwan in 2010. She was inspired to become a lawyer by a popular book she read while still in high school. As a result, she has earned her law degree and plans to dedicate her career to the preservation of human rights. Specifically, Ms. Chien hopes to become a criminal defense attorney so that she can protect the rights of the accused. In addition to her legal work, Ms. Chien is also an active member of the community and loves to play competitive sports.

Ms. Chiu earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from the National Chung Cheng University in Taiwan in 2011. She continued studying at the university and earned her master’s degree in 2014. She is passionate about the study of environmental law and plans to dedicate her career to reforming that area of the law. Ms. Chiu has spent her career thus far preparing national reports on international environmental law, as well as educating the general public about the importance of environmental law. She is looking forward to studying both environmental and energy law in Minnesota.

Mr. Emukah earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of East London in 2015. He was inspired by his mother’s work to pursue a law degree, and is hoping to earn his PhD. in the future. Although Mr. Emukah appreciates all areas of the law, he is particularly interested in business law. He is looking forward to studying American business practices and immersing himself in US culture. Mr. Emukah plans on using his degree to develop sustainable business practices in order to combat poverty and help developing nations.

Venezuela

Ms. Garcia received her bachelor’s degree in Law from the Universidad Metropolitana in Venezuela in 2016, where she also obtained a degree in Liberal Studies. She is especially interested in both public and private international law, as well as contract law. Ms. Garcia wrote her thesis on the newly implemented term limits in Venezuela and how this change is impacting Venezuelan democracy. She has worked with major international clients, combining her knowledge of business law and comparative law in order to draft contracts that were mutually beneficial. In addition, she also enjoys volunteering and is involved in pro bono work supporting underprivileged students.

Mr. Gim earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from Yonsei University in South Korea in 2007. Since 2009 he has worked at a law firm as an antitrust lawyer. As a result of the increased globalization of the Korean economy, he and his firm represent a large number of international clients. He was inspired to come to Minnesota by his colleagues who have previously studied in the United States. Mr. Gim is looking forward to developing his legal writing in both Korean and English so that he can better communicate with his international clients. His goal is become a professor of legal theory in Korea.

Ms. Han received her bachelor’s degree in Law from the Beihang University in China in 2015. She first became interested in the study of law through popular television programs, and later she developed a passion for the law herself. While earning her degree, she frequently volunteered with a program that taught elementary and middle school students about careers in the legal community. Ms. Han has interned at several law firms and hopes to be a mature business lawyer in the future.

Netherlands

Ms. Hoes earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands in 2014. Although she has studied various areas of the law, her primarily focus is on international and European Union Law. She has studied abroad in numerous countries, which has enhanced her interest in international law. Ms. Hoes was inspired by American television and literature to pursue a law degree, and currently lists U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg as one of her role models. While in Minnesota, she hopes to study business law and IP law.

Mr. Hsieh earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from the National Taipei University in Taiwan in 2011. Since then he has been working on his master’s degree, also at the National Taipai University. During that time he has also help several internships and worked as a judge’s assistant in IP court. Mr. Hsieh served as a law clerk in Intellectual Property court and worked on a variety of matters in the field. As a result of his experiences, he hopes to become an IP lawyer and help promote business and technology in Taiwan.

Ms. Huang received her bachelor’s degree in Law from the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law in 2016. Her family members work in all aspects of the legal field and she was inspired by their work to become a lawyer. While completing her degree, she interned at a law firm and also served as a law clerk. For both positions she conducted research on various cases, which was later used at the trial level. Her goal is to use her degree to help underprivileged people resolve social conflicts.

Mr. Huang earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from Soochow University in Taiwan in 2007. He continued his education at the same university and received his master’s degree in 2011. Since then he interned at a law firm, worked as a litigation attorney, and also served as in-house counsel for a company in Taiwan. During his time as in-house counsel, he focused on contract reviews and corporate litigation. His goal is to work at a law firm in the United States in order to further improve his legal skills, and to later return to Taiwan to continue his legal practice there.

Mr. Huang received his bachelor’s degree in Law from the Dalian Maritime University in China in 2011. One year later, he earned his master’s degree from Kyushu University in Japan, where he focused on international economic and business law. His decision to go to Japan was inspired by his desire to become an international lawyer, and his experience at Kyushu University greatly helped expand his legal skills, especially his knowledge of international law. His previous job in China involved working with a multitude of U.S.- based multi-national corporations, and he decided to study in Minnesota to better understand the U.S. culture and legal system and serve his clients. Outside of the legal practice, Mr. Huang enjoys playing the erhu and served as the Vice Chairman of the Chinese Orchestra of his university.

Ms. Huang earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from Shanghai University in 2016. While studying, she discovered her passion for business law. She utilized free time in class to further discuss different problems and potential solutions in the area of business law, and says that this time greatly influenced her decision to continue studying law. Before coming to Minnesota, Ms. Huang interned at a law firm in Beijing, where she improved her legal research skills. Her goal is to become licensed in the United States and practice business law at a local firm before returning to China.

Ms. Jiang earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law in 2013. She was inspired to study law by a Chinese TV series that she watched when she was younger. After graduation, she worked as a legal specialist for a company in Shanghai. In that capacity, she drafted formal contracts and also performed credit voucher audits. Ms. Jiang is passionate about labor law, and has represented her employer in various labor disputes. Her goal is to return to China to practice as a specialized labor law attorney.

Mr. Jing earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from Capital Normal University Beijing in 2016. During his undergraduate career, he worked as a court clerk at the People’s Court of Fengtai District in Beijing. There he worked on his legal writing and also got firsthand experience helping clients. He was inspired to become a lawyer by watching defense lawyers on various television programs. Mr. Jiang’s goal is to return to China and work at a firm specializing in international law.

Ms. Kang received her B.A. in Russian from the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in 2013. She then earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from Korea Cyber University in 2015. Her father’s career in journalism inspired her to read, and this is how she became interested in foreign countries. Ms. Kang became an airline crewmember in order to travel more and visited over 140 cities in the last six years. This experience allowed her to meet people from all over the world and eventually influenced her decision to study law. Ms. Kang’s goal is to study aviation law and become a specialist in the Civil Aviation Act and airline service conflicts in South Korea.

Liberia

Mr. Kruah received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Stella Maris Polytechnic Arthur Barclay Business College in 2010. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Liberia Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law in 2015. He worked as an accountant for several years before switching to law, and has worked both at a law firm and with the Liberian Senate in a legal capacity. Mr. Kruah studied human rights violations in Liberia and noted that many of the victims were underprivileged people without access to legal aid. This inspired him to become an attorney, and he hopes to one day establish his own legal aid clinic.

Mr. Lai earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from the National Chengchi University in 2008. During his undergraduate career, he traveled to the U.K. as part of a study abroad program and saw firsthand the differences between the Taiwanese and British legal systems. After graduating, he began working at a law firm where he developed a passion for IP law, which led him to pursue his master’s degree in Science and Technology from the National Tsing Hua University, which he earned in 2016. He is looking forward to further studying IP law in the United States and using that knowledge in practice in Taiwan. Outside of the legal practice, Mr. Lai enjoys playing basketball.

Mr. Lai earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from the Shenyang Normal University in China in 2016. There, his focus was on international economic law. To further develop his skills, he studied abroad in Kansas for one year while working towards his bachelor’s degree. He is interested in studying in the United States due to the nature of comparative economic law, and the way in which regulations can change, but relationships between countries stay the same. Mr. Lai is looking forward to challenging himself and learning about a completely new legal system while in Minnesota.

Mr. Lamarre received his bachelor’s degree in Law with a focus on Corporate and Tax Law. He has also completed coursework in English Law, American Law, and Business English. Mr. Lamarre previously studied Management and Economy. During his undergraduate career, he interned at several law firms in France. His work at these firms confirmed his interest in International Corporate and Business Law, and he is also interested in Sports Law. He is pursuing a Business Law LL.M. this year and is looking forward to studying American Business Law.

Mr. Lee studied law at the Korea National Open University in 2016. He has also earned his LL.B. equivalent in U.S. law at the KOABELS American Law Research Institute in South Korea. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Lee earned his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering. At that time, he was focused on solar panels, and this has helped lead to his interest in energy law and improving South Korea’s energy policy. When the market for solar panels changed, he decided to pursue a career in the legal field. His goal now is to develop a sustainable renewable energy program for South Korea in order to help the country comply with global standards.

Ms. Li earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Science and Technology Beijing in 2016. She also received her B.A. in English at the same time. Ms. Li was inspired to come to Minnesota by a series of books that were published in China about American law schools. However, she did not develop a real passion for law until she participated in the female migrant worker assistance program. She saw firsthand what underprivileged people thought of the legal system and was determined to serve as legal representation for these people. She is looking forward to studying international human rights law.

Ms. Liu earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from the Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan in 2007. Her primary focus was Financial and Economic Law. Since graduating, she has worked as a law clerk in the Criminal Division of the Hsinchu District Court, in two law offices in Taiwan, and as legal counsel for a firm in China. When she was a child, Ms. Liu’s father worked in a juvenile detention center, and seeing children her age in poor situations led her to become an attorney. She was inspired to come to the United States because of its advanced financial crime laws. Ms. Liu wants to improve protection from financial crimes, and hopes to work for an international company when she returns to Taiwan.

Ms. Lu attended the Tianjin Normal University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Law in 2015. During her undergraduate career, she held several internships, working for a real estate company, the Shantou Intermediate Court, and at the Administrative Office of her local city hall. Throughout her education she has worked to be more outgoing, participating in the school radio program and choosing a university far from home in order to meet new people. Ms. Lu believes that the study of law is important, and that it is important that everyone is educated about basic aspects of the law. She hopes to use her education to improve the public’s awareness of the law in China.

Ms. Luo earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from the Hubei Normal University in China in 2015. She was inspired by the portrayal of a single woman against a major power company in the film Erin Brockovich to become an attorney. She believes in the power of justice and has a passion for protecting human rights. Ms. Luo extensively studied the origins of Chinese law, and found that it borrowed from other countries’ legal systems, so she studied some of those as well. She believes that this transplanting of legal systems has created a disconnect with the local social practices, and hopes to help develop a legal system that works for China. One day she would like to work for the Chinese government.

Ms. Ma received her bachelor’s degree in Law from the Macau University of Science and Technology in 2012. While studying, she interned at the Zhuhai Intermediate People’s Court in China. Since graduating she has worked for two law firms, first as a legal assistant and most recently as an associate. Ms. Ma’s father is also an attorney who received his PhD from the China University of Political Science and Law, and she is excited to follow in his footsteps. Her current work frequently involves researching U.S. laws and regulations, and she is looking forward to studying these laws in depth in Minnesota.

Ms. Mao studied at the Zhongnan University of Economics and Law where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Law in 2016. While her parents are economists, she decided to pursue a career in the legal field. She noted that China has the second largest economy in the world, yet its legal system was not as developed as it could be. Ms. Mao has seen that many people in China do not understand how to protect their rights or claim remedies, and she hopes to help those people. Ms. Mao’s goal is to become an IP lawyer in order to protect the intellectual property of artists and writers in China.

Peru

Ms. Montoya earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in 2011. She is particularly interested in business law and investment infrastructure. She has worked in for several government offices and private law firms, providing legal assistance in Peru, and she has also taken her skills abroad. First, she participated in a volunteer program giving legal advice to businesses in rural villages in India. After that she went to New York to further study business. Most recently she worked at a law firm in Lima that specialized in Private Initiatives and Concessions. Her goal is to use her knowledge to help develop business and infrastructure in Peru.

Uganda

Ms. Murungi earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from Nkumba University in 2013. After graduating she furthered her study of law at the Law Development Center in Uganda. She began working at the Law Development Center as a student volunteer, and accepted a full-time position after completing the program. She is a firm believer in the importance of education and values the opportunities that they study of law has given her. Ms. Murungi is interested in business law and is looking forward to studying in an international environment to help her stand out in her field.

Iran

Ms. Nikoui Mehr attended the Azad Islamic University of Tehran in Iran where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Law in 2014. She comes from a family that values education and she was inspired by her father’s career to become an attorney. She attended a specialized high school program where she focused on humanities before attending law school. There she continued studying humanities, but shifted her focus to the legal elements of human rights. Ms. Nikoui Mehr also participated in two major research projects, one on bankruptcy and the other pertaining to e-commerce. After graduating, she worked as an English teacher and a paralegal at a local law office.

Ukraine

Ms. Omelyanovich studied law at the National Taras Shevchenko University in Ukraine where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Law in 2014. She continued her education and received her master’s degree from the same university in 2016. During her undergraduate career she interned at a law firm and at several government offices in Ukraine. During her last year in the law school, she worked as a lawyer in the Department of the Patrol Police of the National Police of Ukraine. Ms. Omelyanovich is interested in studying U.S. criminal procedure and hopes to become a judge when she returns to Ukraine.

Thailand

Ms. Panklai attended Chulalongkorn Mahawitthayalai in Thailand where she received her bachelor’s degree in Law in 2014. After graduating she took as position as a legal officer at the Office of Council of State of Thailand and later worked as an associate for a local firm. While working for the government of Thailand, her primary responsibility was updating the legal database, which allowed her to study new laws and regulations. Ms. Panklai moved to a small law firm after that in order to gain a well-rounded legal experience. She hopes to return to the government sector in Thailand after completing her LL.M.

China

Ms. Pei received her bachelor’s degree in Law from the Xi’an Jiantong University in China in 2014. She continued her education at the same university, earning her master’s degree in 2016. Her graduate studies focused on civil and commercial law. During her studies she interned at the Supreme People’s Court, where she worked closely with judges on IP cases. Ms. Pei has seen the development of IP law in China and is hoping to return to China to work as an international intellectual property attorney. She also hopes to work with NGOs and non-profit organizations to promote judicial reform in her home country.

Thailand

Mr. Prabhasiri earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from Ramhamhaeng University in 2007. He later studied at the Institute of Legal Education and became a Barrister at Law in 2015. However, Mr. Prabhasiri did not begin his career in the legal field. He first earned his B.S. in Industrial Physics and Medical Instrumentation. Through that experience, he interned at a hospital, where he discovered the extent of the corruption in the medical field. This led him to study law and to his current position at the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (ONACC), where he has worked since 2009. His goal is to become the secretary-general of the ONACC.

Ms. Quirin received her law license from the University of Strasbourg in 2013. In 2014, she received her master’s degree in Business Law, specializing in company law, from the Jean Moulin Lyon III University. In 2016 she earned her master’s degree in Business Law, specializing in Intellectual Property Law from the same university. Ms. Quirin also spent one year in New York studying English. Most recently she worked at a law firm in Paris that specialized in IP law. There she encountered many U.S.-based clients, which inspired her to pursue her master’s degree in American Law.

Ms. Sangiem attended Thammasat University in Bangkok where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Law in 2012. She became interested in law in high school while participating in an exchange program in the United States. It was then that she started to notice the exploitation of immigrant workers, something that she also saw in her home country. Ms. Sangiem became a corporate attorney in order to prevent some of these issues from arising. Her goal is to use her skills to negotiate fair business agreements and ensure that all parties have equal bargaining power.

Ms. Song earned her certificate as an American law specialist from the KOABELS American Law Research Institute in 2016. Prior to studying law, she had earned her bachelor’s degree in History Education with a minor in Law from Seoul National University and also completed a master’s degree course in Psychology from the Pusan National University. She became the first woman to work in the legal department at LIG Nex1 when she started working there in 2009. Her primary responsibility was reviewing and revising English contracts. Ms. Song’s goal is to work for an international company doing work with international commerce.

Ms. Tangchae earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from Chulalongkorn University in 2010. After being named a Barrister at Law in 2012, she began working as a legal consultant specializing in commercial and corporate law. After working in the field for a few years, she earned her LL.M. from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2015. Her LL.M. was focused on IP law and Information law, which she chose because of the large role that IP plays in international business transactions. Ms. Tangchae is now pursuing a Business LL.M. in order to further her career goals.

Mr. Thongmeearkom earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from Chiang Mai University in 2015. Upon completion of his LL.B., he moved to Chicago to begin an LL.M. program. He studied U.S., International and Transnational Law at the Chicago- Kent College of Law and earned his LL.M. in 2016. He is now pursuing an LL.M. in Environmental and Energy Law. His interest in environmental law is largely a result of the issues with air pollution in his home country. After graduating he wants to return to Thailand to work as a litigator.

Mr. Torres earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from the Universidad de los Andes in 2007. He earned his post-graduate degree from the same university in 2008, specializing in Commercial Law. Mr. Torres worked in the private sector in Colombia for several years before deciding to move to the public sector, because he felt that there was more of an opportunity to help people there. He later returned to school to become a specialist in Labor Law and Social Security, earning his certificate from the Universidad del Rosario in 2014. He is looking forward to using his LL.M. degree to better serve the public of Colombia.

Ms. Uribe earned her J.D. from the Universidad de Valparaiso in 2011. While studying she volunteered with at-risk youth, which gave her a unique perspective on the relevant social and legal issues in her home country. Ms. Uribe’s passion for social justice led her to her work at a research center that provided legislative advice to the Senators of the Chilean Socialist Party. After working at a firm, she returned to the National Congress as personal legislative counsel for a Representative. She then went on to receive her postgraduate certificate in Administrative Law from the Pontificia Catholic University of Valparaiso in 2015. She is excited to further study International Law, Human Rights Law and Administrative Law in Minnesota.

Turkey

Mr. Uzum received his bachelor’s degree in Law from Fatih University in Turkey in 2014. While at university, he founded the Tanik Law Association. The organization’s goal was to help better prepare students for the practice of law. Mr. Uzum’s role was to coordinate the Tanik Legal Magazine and the National Moot Court Competition. He is interested in Intellectual Property and Technology Law. After graduating, he hopes to sit the New York Bar and continue his education in the SJD program.

Iran

Ms. Vaezfakhri earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from Shahr-e-Kord University in 2005 and has been pursuing her legal education ever since. In 2009 she received her master’s degree from Allamed Tabatabai University. She also has a Ph.D. in Criminal Law and Criminology from the University of Tehran. Since receiving her first degree, Ms. Vaezfakhri has worked as a researcher and lecturer at several universities in Iran. After visiting Yale Law School as a Robina Fellow, she started her own legal study and arbitration center in Iran.

Ms. Wang graduated from the University of International Business and Economics with a specialization in Corporate Law in 2011. Ms. Wang has worked at two law firms in China, first focusing on the securities aspects of corporate law and then moving into international law in her second position. Her goal is to work at a law firm in Beijing as a securities and foreign investment law expert.

Mr. Xue earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law in 2016. He decided to study law after learning about the justice system from his father, a police officer. While his studies focused on Financial Law, he also took a broad array of courses in order to establish a strong foundation for his legal education. Last summer he had the opportunity to put his work into practice when he interned at North Xinjing Prison. His goal is to work in Shanghai as an international lawyer specializing in transactions between China and the United States.

Ms. Yan received her bachelor’s degree in Law from the East China University of Political Science and Law where she majored in International Economic Law. She is currently working on her master’s degree in Environmental and Natural Resources Law at the China University of Political Science and Law. Ms. Yan is interested in environmental law as a result of the extreme pollution that she was exposed to in her hometown. She worked with a prominent environmental law professor during her graduate career and developed her research and writing skills. She hopes to work as an environmental law specialist in the future.

Mr. Yang earned his bachelor’s degree in Law from Soochow University in Taiwan in 2015. He completed his senior research project on juvenile diversion in Taiwan. After graduating, he began working on his master’s degree at the same university where he is studying Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure. During his undergraduate career, Mr. Yang took many classes on Anglo-American law, which helped developed his interest in comparative law. His goal is to become a Criminal Law scholar.

Ms. Zhao earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from the Southwest University of Political Science and Law in 2015. At the same time she also received her B.A. in English. Her English degree focused on the common law system, while her minor in law focused on the Chinese legal system. She decided to become a lawyer in high school after seeing what a positive impact lawyers could have on the people’s lives. Ms. Zhao’s goal is to become an international lawyer, which is especially important due to the high volume of cross-border deals occurring in China.

Mr. Zheng received his bachelor’s degree in Law from Peking University in 2014. Since he was a child, he loved to read Chinese history books. This interest in history and political reform eventually led him to study law. During his undergraduate career, Mr. Zheng won his university’s freshmen-only debate, and also participating in the International Moot Court Competition. After graduating he opened up his own pizzeria. He is looking forward to studying business law in Minnesota.

Ms. Zhou earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from Xiamen University in 2015. At the same time she also received her Certificate of Japanese Language. During her undergraduate career she held internships in both courts and law firms. She used her time at the courts to study the law and witness how parties interact with one another, and then put her knowledge into practice at the law firms. Ms. Zhou hopes to use her degree to work at a global corporation or law firm.

Ms. Zhu earned her bachelor’s degree in Law from the Northwest University of Political Science and Law in 2015. For her undergraduate studies, she focused on Economic Law. As a child, she saw a major factory in her town close and the workers left without pay. When she grew up, she decided to study law to represent people in similar situations and prevent such injustices. During her undergraduate career, she interned at a law office. This gave her the opportunity to work with a variety of clients and to work on her communication skills. She hopes to practice public benefit law in China.

Ms. Zhu studied International Economic Law at the Nanjing Normal University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Law in 2016. She grew up in a family that highly valued education and has supported her throughout her time at university. During her undergraduate career she participated in major debate competitions on various contemporary legal policy questions. During the latter half of her studies, she began focusing more on law and began an internship at a local law firm. Ms. Zhu is looking forward to studying business law in Minnesota, and hopes to work as an international trade lawyer when she returns to China.
