The Lawyering for Social Justice series gives students the opportunity to engage with human rights and social justice practitioners to learn about their work and diverse career paths in the field.

University of Minnesota Law School Graduate Griffin Ferry (’16) is a Robina Fellow at the American Red Cross. Griffin is originally from Evanston Illinois, and prior to attending law school Griffin received his B.A. from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. During his 1L summer, Griffin worked as an intern. While there, he conducted legal researched and monitored current women’s rights developments for the Women’s Rights Program at the Advocates for Human Rights in Minnesota. During his 2L summer, Griffin served as a law clerk for the Office of the President of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha, Tanzania. Griffin Ferry is also an award recipient for the 2015 International Humanitarian Law Student Writing competition. The theme of the competition was “The Intersection of International Humanitarian Law and Gender”. Griffin’s winning paper was on the recurring themes of marginalization, sexualization, and infatilization of women under the guise of protection that exists in International Humanitarian Law.
