Minnesota Women Lawyers Honors Two 3Ls for Legal Writing

Minnesota Women Lawyers has announced that 3L Meghan Knapp is the recipient of the 2020 Equal Justice Award.

The annual award invites for a paper submitted by a Minnesota law student on a topic involving law and social justice.

Knapp‘s article is entitled, “Romani Women’s Right to Water: Bringing Intersectional Discrimination Claims in the E.U.” Knapp works as a research assistant for Professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, and she is a full-time intern with the Guernica Centre for International Justice, where she is working on multiple transitional justice projects in Latin America and Africa.

Additionally, MWL presented an honorable mention to 3L Jackie Fielding for her article entitled: “Silence is Golden: Requiring Attorney Consultation and Cosigning Before a Juvenile Can Waive Their (Precious) Miranda Rights.” Fielding has been pursuing social justice and public interest law throughout her legal education, including working at the ALCU of Minnesota and interning at the Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division.
