Minnesota Law Students Fare Well in Inaugural Interdisciplinary Health Data Competition

A team with three Minnesota Law 3Ls fared well in the University of Minnesota’s inaugural interdisciplinary Health Data Competition, placing third out of a total of 16 teams.

The competition required students to explore the Minnesota Department of Health’s new prescription drug public use files and provide innovative insights, analysis, and recommendations based on their findings.

3L Jake Gray, 3L Caroline Sell (J.D./M.P.H.) and 3L Jennifer Brown (J.D./Ph.D. in Neuroscience) were members of a team that presented on “Uncovering the Cost of Diabetes.” Rounding out the five-member team were Fadlullah Ba'th and Kristine Nachbor, M.D. candidates at the Medical School.

The goal of the competition was to promote interdisciplinary dialogue around real-world healthcare challenges and for students to provide innovative solutions using data science tools and methodologies.  This event encouraged graduate students across all disciplines at the Twin Cities campus to practice, enhance, and showcase their understanding of real-world healthcare problems and their abilities to solve them with innovative use of data science.
