Will Stancil ’13 Quoted in the Minnesota Reformer About Cruz-Guzman v. State of MN Ruling

Will Stancil ’13, Minnesota Law Research Fellow, was quoted in the Minnesota Reformer about the Minnesota Supreme Court ruling in favor of the plaintiffs in Cruz-Guzman v. State of Minnesota. The ruling said that parents seeking desegregated public schools do not have to prove the state caused the segregation, but they do have to prove that racial imbalances in schools lead to poor educational outcomes for students of color. Stancil said the link between racial and socioeconomic segregation and poor students outcomes is well-established by research. “The linkage between racial segregation and poor student outcomes is overwhelming,” he said. “It shows up in every study that has ever been done on a large level on the subject.”
