Profs. Elizabeth Bentley and Nadia Anguiano ’17 Interviewed in Minnesota Lawyer About Pending Supreme Court Case

In January, the Civil Rights Appellate Clinic, led by Professor Elizabeth Bentley, and the Federal Immigration Litigation Clinic, led by Professor Nadia Anguiano ’17, will head to the U.S. Supreme Court to present oral arguments on an important immigration case, Campos-Chaves v. Garland. Minnesota Lawyer wrote about the case this week, “The case involves an effort by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to remove a noncitizen, Moris Esmelis Campos-Chaves, from the country. At issue is a question involving notification — whether DHS can proceed with removal when it fails to properly notify noncitizens about hearing dates and times ... Other than a few law schools that have dedicated Supreme Court litigation clinics, it is rare for clinical programs to get involved in Supreme Court cases to the degree that these two clinics have. Clinics frequently file Supreme Court amicus briefs, but for Campos-Chaves v. Garland, the clinics filed their client’s merits brief on Oct. 18 and are helping to prepare the case for oral argument.”
