Professor Jill Hasday testified before the Minnesota Legislature on requiring employers to include pay ranges in job postings. The bill would require an employer with 30 or more employees to include the starting salary range and general description of benefits – or other compensation – for any job posting, whether printed or electronic. The bill’s author said that keeping wages secret can help facilitate pay discrimination among employees. Professor Hasday testified, “Pay transparency promotes pay equity. Pay secrecy makes it easier for employers to get away with paying different salaries for the same work.”
